COVID19: Cyprus winning the fight against deadly virus

Cyprus has managed to keep coronavirus cases under double figures for the second day running after health authorities reported five more infections on Monday from six the previous day.

These five positive cases were found from 1,669 tests, bringing the total of confirmed infections in the Cyprus Republic to 772 since the outbreak on March 9. The death toll still remains at 12.

The Health Ministry said that two cases were confirmed from 1,171 tests within the framework of 20,000 tests for frontline workers.

Two people tested positive from tracing of already confirmed cases whereas no one was found positive through the tests run by the microbiological labs of all General Hospitals.

Additionally, 122 tests were done on people who returned from abroad and there were no positive cases among them.

One more positive test was confirmed from two tests conducted privately.

Since April 11, a total of 9,720 tests were carried out in the framework of the 20,000 tests for frontline workers.

Some 16 patients are hospitalized at the Famagusta COVID-19 reference hospital, four of whom are in the Advanced Care Unit (ACU).

Their condition is described as generally stable. Two patients were discharged.

Eight people are intubated, three of whom are at the ICU of Limassol General Hospital and five at the ICU in Nicosia General Hospital.

Five patients are hospitalized at Nicosia General Hospital ICU, but they are not on a ventilator.

All of the ICU patients’ condition is critical but stable.
