The air traffic controllers have announced that they will be staging a 12-hour strike at the control towers of Larnaca and Paphos Airports, from 0900 to 2100 local time, on December 15, when the House of Representatives will be voting on the government's fiscal consolidation measures.

Their trade union noted that on the day of the strike the air traffic controllers will abstain from working overtime at the Nicosia Area Control Centre, and that measures may escalate according to developments.

It added that the strike will affect all flights to and from the two airports, except the VIP, state, military, hospital, humanitarian, search and rescue, and emergency flights, and flights with technical problems.
