Cypriot and Chinese officials held a meeting at the Ministry of Tourism to further strengthen the cooperation between Cyprus and China in the travel sector.

Tourism Minister Kostas Koumis and Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism of China Li Qun exchanged ideas, views and suggestions on Monday.

It was the first time an official of the Chinese government visited the deputy ministry.

It was agreed that an online conference between the two deputy ministries would be scheduled during mid-July, and the cooperation would proceed with signing a Memorandum of Understanding.

Koumis promoted the advantages of Cyprus as a tourist destination but stressed the need for a direct air link between Cyprus and China.

In the Memorandum of Understanding, the government wants to include education, emphasising Cyprus becoming a destination for those interested in foreign languages and sports tourism.

Koumis argued it would be extremely beneficial to promote the gastronomy of each country, while he extended an invitation to his Chinese counterpart to participate in the annual tourism exhibition organised in Cyprus.
