COVID19: Political leaders to be briefed on easing lockdown

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades will brief political party leaders on April 23 about plans to reboot the economy and ease social distancing rules once the coronavirus outbreak is contained.

Once the scientific team of Health Ministry coronavirus taskforce gives the green light, the government plans to restart the economy, Government Spokesman Kyriakos Koushos told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).

The President will meet political leaders at the Presidential Palace, next Thursday, at 11.30 am while the day before he will chair a meeting with the scientific team on the coronavirus impact.

Koushos said the meeting will take place to decide how to proceed with the easing of restrictive measures and what each Ministry will do.

“The President will inform them about the situation and the developments regarding how we are dealing with the pandemic and where we stand.”

“There will be a briefing on the developments, the assessment which was done, the plans of the government for restarting the economy and any other issues that come up concerning the coronavirus.”

He said based on the scientific evidence, businesses will gradually be allowed to operate again, starting with those functioning in open venues and with a small number of people while taking all precautionary measures.
