Fast Forward at “Cyprus Gourmet”

Welcome Matthew!

COMMENT

Matthew Stowell has joined Cyprus Gourmet as Associate Publisher and will work with us to develop a wide range of features, profiles and editorial packages for all three CG activities – CG Weekly, CG Magazine and the new CG website. Born in Massachusetts, he is widely travelled and a writer of breadth and experience, with a penchant for good food and wine.
In his younger years Matthew cooked in restaurants, waited on table, harvested grapes and worked in wineries. This he turned to good use with well established food and wine columns in American newspapers and magazines, to which he still contributes.
Among Matthew’s life-changing chapters was a period when he owned and ran a book store in New York. One day a Limassol-born lady, visiting the city from Canada where she had been living and working, came in to browse. Eyes met. Conversation flowed. Meetings arranged. Marriage followed. Horizons expanded as Matthew found Cyprus, liking what he saw during visits. Gradually time spent here grew, until last year when Matthew and Olga decided Limassol would be their permanent base.
“While I was in the States, thinking about my future in Cyprus”, Matthew told me, “I made up my mind that an organisation making food and wine evaluations and awards, and publishing them in newspapers, magazines and on a website, was what Cyprus needed and what I wanted to do. I got here and found it was already in being”.
A happy coincidence!

Welcome to our WWW

For some weeks now we have been preparing the CG website, and we think it now has sufficient content for it to be opened to the public gaze. So, I cordially invite all readers to tune in to www.cyprus-gourmet.com . There you will find: the CG Listings of Approved Restaurants, Tavernas and Cafés, wineries, wine importers and retails, food shops and services; a selection of restaurant reviews (these will be added to regularly); Issues 1, 2 and 3 of Cyprus Gourmet Magazine page-by-page; the current and past three issue of Cyprus Gourmet Weekly; recipes from a Mediterranean kitchen; book reviews; wine reviews and tasting notes; archive features on wine, food, village life and Cyprus traditions. The website has been created and is hosted in the UK by Susanna and Robert Skinner, who as publishing executives are wise in web ways. All comments and contributions are welcome.
The Cyprus Gourmet Website is linked to a number of international and local tourism and related sites and will have a rapidly growing viewership here, in the UK and other countries. We have ambitious plans for development and reader involvement. As an advertising medium it is inexpensive, flexible and “open all year round”.
