Cyprus population rises 1.4% in 2007

Headline figures from the Statistical Service report that the population of Cyprus (in the government-controlled area of the Greek Cypriot south) was estimated at 789,300 at the end of 2007, recording an increase of 1.4% from the previous year.
The population in the district of Nicosia (Lefkosia), the capital, was 310,900 at the end of 2007.
The population of Limassol (Lemesos), the main commercial port, was 226,700.
The population of Paphos in the west was 76,100.
The population of Larnaca (Larnaka) in the south was 131,900, while the population of Famagusta (Ammochostos) in the east was 43,700.
Data show that 69.9% of the population lived in urban, while 30,.1% lived in rural areas.
