The number of active accounts trading at least once during September 2007 fell to 7039 compared to 10775 in May 2007 while the daily average of active accounts on the CSE in September was also down at 988 compared to 1528 in May.

The active investors’ shares mobility also fell from 2.98 to 2.81 according to the CSE September bulletin. By the end of September there were 166.949 accounts open with only 1 title, which essentially makes up the share register of Demetra Investments in excess of 160.000 shareholders and Bank of Cyprus with more than 70.000 registered shareholders. In both instances, the majority do not trade their shares.

Investors with 2-5 securities numbered 75.204, those with 6-10 securities 14.372 while those in excess of 10 securities numbered only 5.086, representing 1.94% of the total 261.611 open accounts.

The CSE once again failed to provide information regarding the percentage of foreign holding of CSE quoted shares, while there was no information on how many shares have been transferred from Cyprus to Athens with respect to the share registry of Bank of Cyprus and Marfin Popular Bank.
