Cyprus outlines positions on EU enlargement

The positions of the Republic of Cyprus on the next European Union enlargement, including Turkey’s accession to the Union, were presented by Minister of Foreign Affairs Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis during an international conference in Bled, Slovenia.

An official statement said that Marcoullis introduced the Cypriot positions in an intervention during the deliberations of the conference entitled ”EU 2002: Enlargement and Completion”, which is organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia and attended by other EU foreign ministers as well as senior officials from third countries and international organisations.

During the conference, Marcoullis held a number of bilateral meetings with her counterparts from Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Albania, Montenegro and Hungary, as well as high ranking EU officials and the SG of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

She also hosted a lunch for the Slovenian mass media where she analysed the latest developments in the Cyprus problem, Euro-Turkish relations as well as relations between Cyprus and Slovenia.

The Cypriot ministers returns to Cyprus on Tuesday afternoon.
