PricewaterhouseCoopers’s two-day Careers Fair took place just before the Christmas holidays in order to help young and aspiring minds to seek promising new professional careers.

The exhibition was opened on Friday, December 22, by the Rector of the University of Cyprus, Stavros Zenios. The event took place in a specifically transformed area in

Leonidou Street

in Nicosia, behind PwC’s “Aias” building, and remained open on Saturday, December 23 from 10am to 7pm.

Phidias Pilides, Chief Executive Officer of PricewaterhouseCoopers said during the opening ceremony that “the leading position of PwC in Cyprus, in the area of assurance, advisory and tax services, is a result of a continuous effort. The knowledge, experience and teamwork have been the cornerstones of this effort. But above all, our most valuable asset is our people, who possess this wealth of knowledge. Colleagues who share the same passion for excellence.”

“For this reason, PwC is continuously upgrading the procedures for attracting, recruiting and performance appraisals for their people. This career fair is a step towards the best possible staffing of our organisation,” Pilides said.

PwC Cyprus presently employs more than 220 trainee accountants/auditors from Cyprus and abroad and in 2006 the company had 137 new intakes.

“Our aim is to recruit, train and develop the best,” added Pilides. “It is our firm belief that in this particularly tough and competitive environment, you can only excel if you have people focused on the organisation’s values and code of ethics — creative people, with innovative ideas, expertise and knowledge.”
