Trade deficit widens in first seven months

According to preliminary figures from the Statistical Service, the deficit on trade in goods in Cyprus widened to CYP 1,521 mln (1.52 bln) in January-July 2006 from CYP 1,232 mln in January-July 2005.

Total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other Member States) in the first half of 2006 amounted to CYP 1,894 mln as compared to CYP 1,610.5 mln in the first half of 2005.

Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other Member States) in January-July 2006 were CYP 373 mln compared to CYP 378.5 mln in January-July 2005.

During July 2006 alone, total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other Member States) valued at CYP 254.2 mln.

Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other Member States), including stores and provisions, in July 2006 amounted to CYP 52.2 mln. ?xports/dispatches of domestically produced goods, including stores and provisions, were CYP 19.6 mln and exports/dispatches of foreign goods, including stores and provisions, CYP 32.6 mln.

On the basis of preliminary estimates for Foreign Trade in August 2006, total imports/ arrivals were CYP 258.6 mln , of which CYP 161.7 mln were arrivals from other Member States of E.U. and CYP 96.9 mln imports from Third countries.

Total exports/dispatches were CYP 43.1 mln of which CYP 24.5 mln were dispatches to other Member States of E.U. and CYP 18.6 mln exports to Third Countries.
