Tourist increase is milder

Local credit card spending by Cypriots rose by 10% in January-September 2005, according to latest figures from the credit card monopoly, JCC Systems but the increase in spending by tourists was milder.

The total value of credit car expenditure by Cypriots in businesses located in Cyprus amounted to CYP 467.3 mln in the first nine months, while the number of transactions was 11.6 mln. Average spending per transaction was CYP 40.

Cypriots spend more per transaction when abroad, however, where the average spend per transaction was CYP 94. The total value of transactions amounted to CYP 138 mln in the same period and rose by 16%.

Tourist increase is milder

Cedit card spending by tourists in Cyprus rose less quickly, by just 5% in January-September. Tourist spending amounted to CYP 186.7 mln with 2.2 mln individual transactions.

The average spend per transaction was also fairly high, however, at CYP 83.
