Cyprus tourism bounces back in May

Arrivals of tourists to Cyprus bounced back in May, rising by 8.6% year on year, after a seasonal fall relating to the timing of Easter led to a 4.0% drop in April.

On the basis of the results of the Passengers Survey, arrivals of tourists reached 284,132 in May 2005 compared with 261,646 in May 2004.

The fastest rising market was Germany, according to Financial Mirror analysis, with a huge 54.8% increase compared with May 2004. Germany is the second largest supplier of tourists after the UK. The second highest rise came from Israel, up by 27.7%.

The UK market also held up fairly well, rising by 7.2% year on year, having fallen in April. Western Easter was celebrated in March 2005 but in April 2004.

For the period January – May 2005 arrivals of tourists totalled at 736,265 compared with 697,053 in the corresponding period of 2004, recording an increase of 5.6%.
