The Statistical Service has announces the launching of the Census of Establishments on May 9, 2005.

The Census of Establishments will cover all enterprises and establishments of work which operate in all the Government Controlled Area of Cyprus (excluding agricultural units) which are estimated to be about 80,000.

For each establishment data will be recorded, inter alia, on the economic activity, legal entity of the enterprise, the year of commencement of operations, the number of employed persons (including Turkish Cypriots and foreign workers) as well as the turnover of the enterprise.

The Census of establishments will form the basis for the set-up of a Business Register as required by a relevant Council Regulation of the European Union.

The Statistical Service asks businesses and organisations to supply all the required data to the enumerators who will visit them in the next few weeks. At the same time the Statistical Service emphasises that all data collected will be treated as confidential as provided in the Statistics Law.
