UK and Greece are top spots for Cypriot travellers

The UK and Greece were the top spots for travellers in November, according to the results of the Passengers Survey published by the Statistical Service Cystat.

In November a total of 57,626 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad in November 2006 compared to 53,130 in the corresponding month last year, recording an increase of 8.5%.

In the same month tourists coming to the island reached 95,682.

In November alone, there was an increase of 19.6% in the number of trips of residents to Greece (from 20,352 in November 2005 to 24,337 in November 2006) and 36.2% increase to the United Kingdom (from 8,431 to 11,486).

There was a significant decrease in the number of trips to Syria (38.2%) and Lebanon (59.4%).

For the period January-November, the number of trips abroad reached 855,158, or more than one per person.

The most popular destinations were Greece (364,953), the UK (137,357) and Russia (37,810).
