CYPRUS: Hellenic launches first 'bank on wheels'

Hellenic Bank presented its first mobile banking bus on Friday which is to serve customers and ex Co-op clients in rural areas where there are no branches to serve them.

Hellenic announced in September that it would set in motion a number of ‘banks on wheels’ which are to provide banking services to inhabitants of rural villages left without a branch after the closure of some 44 branches in September after the Co-op takeover.

The specially modified trucks are in a position to offer both Hellenic Bank and ex Co-op customers almost all services provided by a conventional banking branch.

The ‘bank on wheels’ are designed on European safety standards and are equipped with ATMs, cash registers, seating areas, air conditioning, and lifts to facilitate access for elderly and disabled people.

The first Mobile Bank to strengthen Hellenic’s existing branch network will start on Monday, November 12 and will cover 12 rural communities: Kofinou, Ayios Theodoros, Chirokitia, Kalo Chorio, Vrysoules, Frenaros, Xylotymbou, Dasaki, Liopetri, Xylofagou, Parekklisia and Yermasoyia.
