CYPRUS: Unemployment at 11%

The euro area (EA19) seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 8.7% in November, down from 8.8% in October and from 9.8% in November 2016, the lowest rate recorded in the euro area since January 2009, according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.


The EU28 unemployment rate was 7.3% in November, down from 7.4% in October and from 8.3% in November 2016. This is the lowest rate recorded in the EU28 since October 2008.

In Cyprus, unemployment was 11% in November, up from 10.5% in October and down from 13.1% in November 2016. This is the third largest annual decrease in the EU. Unemployment stood at 10.9% for men and 11.2% for women, on the same month. In Cyprus 47,000 individuals were unemployed in November (up from 45,000 in October and down from 55,000 in November 2016).
