The Head of the Cyprus E.U. Presidency Secretariat, Andreas Moleskis, has expressed confidence that Cyprus is more than capable of rising to the challenge of assuming the EU Presidency.

In a welcoming speech at the opening of a seminar on EU Presidency logistics, organized in Nicosia, on Friday, by the Secretariat of Cyprus EU Presidency in collaboration with the Secretariat for EU Meeting in Sweden, he said that “it is our determination to utilize the Swedish experience on EU Presidency issues in order to ensure that Cyprus’ first EU Presidency lives up to the expectations the role demands.”

This, he added, “presents a unique opportunity for Cyprus to enhance our member state profile and upgrade the Cyprus Republic image globally”.

“A well-prepared and smoothly run presidency needs to be considered as big investment for the future, since it will facilitate the better integration of all national institutions – both public and private – into the sophisticated system of EU mechanisms”, he pointed out.

He went on to say that the challenge for Cyprus “is even greater since this is the first time ever that we are going to plan and implement a project such as this on such a grand scale and there is no related so-called “institutional memory” in the government.

“I am however confident that Cyprus is more than capable of rising to this challenge”, he said.

He also expressed the belief that “what our public administration lacks in size, it possesses in quality and the positive response to this seminar by all the ministries and working groups involved is further proof of the determination in carrying out a successful EU Presidency”.
