The Dow Jones industrial average (.DJI) was up 1.21 points, or 0.01 percent, at 8,713.03. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index (.SPX) was down 2.81 points, or 0.30 percent, at 937.93. The Nasdaq Composite Index (.IXIC) was down 4.33 points, or 0.23 percent, at 1,880.70.
