President of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KEVE) Manthos Mavrommatis has announced that the Cyprus-Russia Business Association and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism are organising a mission to Moscow and Sotsi from June 16 to 20.

Mavrommatis told a press conference that 25 companies would be participating in the delegation, mainly from the sector of banks, logistics and law offices that represent a significant number of international companies.

He added that this was the first mission to Sotsi on the Black Sea and that contacts have already been made.

Mavrommatis also pointed out that the aim was to attract Russian capital to Cyprus and promote the island as a services centre, adding that Russia already accounts for 80% of income from the provision of services in Cyprus.

Furthermore, the Association, along with the Cyprus-Russia Friendship Association, will be organising a presentation of the Cypriot real estate market in Moscow from September 29 to October 3.

On October 2, the two Associations will be organising a trip to Saint Petersburg to present Cyprus as an attractive financial centre.

Director of Commerce at the Department of Commerce at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Andreas Sophocleous said the Ministry, in the framework of its cooperation with KEVE, has organised 15 seminars in 10 countries this year, adding that 10 more would follow in various countries.

He noted that Russia is a priority for Cyprus and that the aim was to enhance financial, commercial and tourism relations.

Russian Ambassador to Cyprus Viaceslav Sumski said that the Winter Olympic Games would be taking place in Sotsi in 2014 and that this provided a good opportunity for Cypriot investments in the area.

He added that the trip to Moscow next week was a good opportunity to enhance relations between the two countries.
