Double weather warning for Saturday, Sunday

Cyprus continues to suffer from high temperatures with the authorities issuing a rare, yellow summer warning for night time and a second warning for extreme heat on Sunday.

The Department of Meteorology said temperatures are not expected to fall below 27 degrees on Saturday night, with the warning valid until 8am on Sunday.

It also issued an orange warning for extremely high daytime temperatures for Sunday with temperatures expected to reach around 43C inland.

Weather observers Kitas Weather gave further details, saying “day time maximum temperatures on Sunday are expected to reach around 39-40 degrees Celsius over plain areas within a few kilometres distance or over from the coastline, c.38 degrees over the southern coastal areas, 36-41 degrees over the high ground, 28-35 degrees over the highest mountains.
