Ayia Napa Marina hosted on Thursday five Cyprus Navy vessels, in a trial run to test the technical specifications and operational capabilities of the marina that is currently under construction.

A military source told CNA that provisions were made in the marina’s technical specifications, at the suggestion of the construction company, to be able to host Cyprus Navy vessels.

The same source also indicated the marina’s strategic and operational importance for the Famagusta District, which is separated from the rest of the Republic by the adjacent British Bases.

“There is cooperation with the Ministry of Defence and it was consulted while drawing up the designs for the marina,” said the source.

Ayia Napa Marina announced the visit of the five naval ships to its facilities, saying that it was for training purposes.

The vessels taking part were; ΜΥΚ 1-1, TSOMAKIS, GEORGIOU, IOANNIDES and FAMAGUSTA, according to the marina.

During the visit, crews had the opportunity to test and tour facilities, guided by Ayia Napa Marina CEO, Stavros Caramondanis, the announcement said. (source CNA)
