Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades said his discussions with Slovenian counterpart Borut Pahor have unveiled the vision the two countries share for a more people-orientated EU.

Addressing an official dinner hosted in his honour to wrap up the Ljubljana visit, President Anastasiades said that faith in EU principles and values, and consistency in policies, would create prospects and preconditions for a bright future “if united and with a strong sense of solidarity we proceed.”

“I look forward to closer cooperation, developing our relations, creating the prospects for better days,” Anastasiades said, adding that, like Slovenia, Cyprus respects international law, European principles and values.

Anastasiades renewed the invitation extended to Pahor to visit Cyprus the soonest possible.

Pahor said both countries were strongly oriented towards Europe and pointed out the role small EU states could play in the future of the bloc.

He also referred to the close and friendly ties between Cyprus and Slovenia, adding that they shared a common vision for the prospects opening through the EU.
