June deposits decrease by 1.1%, according to Central Bank of Cyprus

Total deposits with Monetary and Financial Institutions in Cyprus recorded a decrease of 1.1% in June 2012, on an annual basis, reaching 70.77 billion euro, the Central Bank of Cyprus has announced.

CBC released on Thursday the Monetary Financial Institutions (MFIs) loans and deposits statistics for the reference month of June 2012, which are included in the July 2012 edition of Monetary and Financial Statistics.

According to the data, May 2012 deposits recorded a decrease of 1.2%, amounting to 72.46 billion euro, while June 2011 statistics showed an increase of 6.3%, to 71.07 billion.

The total MFI loans for June 2012 recorded an increase of 10% to 71.69 billion, on an annual basis, the same increase that it was recorded in May 2012 (70.30 billion euro). June 2011 loans recorded an increase of 9.3% to 65.13 billion euro.

CBC’s statistics show that June 2012 deposits of domestic residents held with MFIs recorded a decrease of 1.7%, to 43.56 billion euro, compared to 44.26 billion in May 2012 and 44.25 in June 2011.

Total deposits of Cypriot households recorded an increase of 5.2% to 36.60 billion, compared to 36.50 in May 2012 and 34.71 in June 2011.

The total deposits of the General Government recorded a decrease of 34.9% in June 2012 to 479.2 million, compared to 522.8 million in May 2012 and 719.4 million in June 2011.

Deposits of the rest of the world residents showed a decrease of 5.2% in June 2012, on an annual basis, amounting to 20.60 billion, compared to 1.6% decrease in May 2012 (21.76 billion) and 16.4% increase in June 2011 (21.39).

According to the statistics, loans to domestic residents recorded an increase of 3.6% in June 2012, to 52.97 billion, compared to an increase of 6.4% in June 2011 (51.17 billion).

Loans to households in June 2012 recorded an increase of 3.2% to 27.09 billion, compared to an increase 6.8% in June 2011 (26.28 billion).

Loans to the General Government amounted to 1.12 billion euro in June 2012, compared to 1.11 billion in June 2011.

Loans to other euro area residents in June 2012 recorded an increase of 35.5% to 4.91 billion in June 2012, whereas the loans to the rest of the world residents recorded an increase of 32.5% to 13.81 billion.
