Optimistic prospects on tourism from Russia to Cyprus

Prospects on tourist trends from Russia to Cyprus in the coming summer season are exceptionally optimistic, according to President of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) Alekos Orountiotis who led Cyprus' delegation to the 6th Tourist Exhibition of Moscow.

In statements, Orountiotis said ''we have had contacts with big tour operators who specialize in Cyprus as well with many who try for the first time to bring tourists to Cyprus and we receive indications that more Russian tourists will visit the island this summer, saying that they feel at home in Cyprus.”

Pointing out the significance of the Russian market for Cyprus' tourism, he said that during 2010, 223.000 tourists from Russia visited Cyprus recording an increase of 50%, in comparison to 2009.

The CTO President said that flights from eight other towns besides Moscow and St. Petersburg to Cyprus will be carried out in the coming summer.

He also referred to the safety and quality of services in Cyprus which attract Russian tourists, adding that Russian tourists want to enjoy the sun and the sea.
