In times of economic crisis, people still want to spend a good moment, with a good bottle of wine and good food.
The Financial Mirror recently met two producers from Bordeaux at a wine tasting organised by Spectus in Nicosia who said that despite the world financial crisis, the biggest factor that will help a wine succeed is the weather and not the stock market.
David Patrick Launay from Chateau Gruaud Larose said that even though 2010 will be a smaller production because of humidity and the cold in June, their Merlot will be better because of good weather in July, August and September, and the king of their grape variety, the Cabernet Sauvignon, will be equal, if not better than the 2009.
“2010 will be a smaller crop but the quality is amazing, I would say as exceptional as ’09 but in different style. We haven’t finalised the blend right now, but what we’re going to select for Gruaud Larose and the Sargé will benefit for sure from this selection. They will be excellent, delicious wines actually, to keep and to drink.”
Philibert Perrin from Chateau Carbonnieux, probably the biggest vineyard in Bordeaux, said their red and white vintages for 2010 will be among the best so far because of a good summer and harvest time.
“It will be surely great because we have a good balance, fruity smell (in the red and white). It’s very rare because we usually have a very good vintage for one kind of wine, sometimes the dry white wine, sometimes the sweet, and this year it’s very good for all the kinds.”
