Cyprus and Switzerland have signed an agreement to upgrade, through joint funds, the system for the environmental observation of Cyprus’ sea waters.

An official press release issued here said that the project aims to maintain the good quality of Cyprus’ sea waters, to the benefit of the country’s economy and its society.

Switzerland will contribute 2,574,000 euro and Cyprus 454,000 euro.

The project will be implemented by the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research and it is expected to be concluded in three years.

The project provides for the purchase, installation and pilot operation of sea platforms and instruments to observe a series of environmental factors.

The agreement was signed here Tuesday by Permanent Secretary of the Planning Bureau Andreas Moleskis and the Ambassador of Switzerland to Cyprus Peter Vogler.
