Cyprus outbound tourism drops 6.3% in September

Outbound tourism from Cyprus dropped for the fifth straight month in September.
On the basis of the results of the Passengers Survey, 103,286 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad in September 2009, a fall of 6.3% compared with the 110,199 recorded in the corresponding month of 2008.
In September 2009 there was a decrease of 8.5% in the number of trips of residents to the most popular destination, Greece (32,936 in September 2009 compared with 35,982 in September 2008).
On the other hand, there was an increase of 11.5% in the number of trips to the UK, the second most popular destination, with 25,647 trips in September.
Trips to Russia dropped by 15.7% to 6,222.
In September 72.1% of all trips were for holidays and, 21.3% were for business purposes.
