Cyprus trade deficit shrinks by more than a quarter in June

The trade deficit shrank by more than a quarter in June, according to preliminary data from the Statistical Service, Cystat.
According to the provisional data, total imports/ arrivals reached EUR 462.2 mln, of which EUR 329.4 mln were arrivals from other member states of the EU and EUR 132.8 mln imports from third countries.
Total exports/dispatches amounted to EUR 81.8 mln, of which EUR 52.1 mln were dispatches to other member states of the EU and EUR 29.7 mln exports to third Countries.
The trade deficit was EUR 380 mln, a fall of 26.4% compared with the EUR 517 mln recorded in June 2008.
The Statistical Service also published full data for the period January-May 2009.
In January-May, total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other member states) amounted to EUR 2,312.7 mln, compared with EUR 2,964.4 mln in January-May 2008.
Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other member states) in January-May 2009 reached EUR 396.1 mln, compared with EUR 478.7 mln in January-May 2008.
The trade deficit was EUR 1,916.6 mln in January-May 2009, compared with EUR 2,485.7 mln in January-May 2008.
During May 2009 total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other member states) were valued at EUR 486.6 mln.
Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other member states), including stores and provisions in May alone amounted to EUR 91.3 mln.
Εxports/dispatches of domestically produced goods, including stores and provisions, reached EUR 53.1 mln, whilst exports/dispatches of foreign goods, including stores and provisions, amounted to EUR 38.2 mln.
