Cyprus retail sales drop 5.9% y/y (prov) in May

The turnover volume index of retail trade (except automotive fuel) in April 2009 fell by 1.7% compared with April 2008 according to revised data from the Statistical Service.
According to provisional estimates May, retail trade volumes fell by 5.9% compared with the same period of 2008.
For the period January-May 2009 the index is provisionally estimated to have decreased by 1.4% compared with the corresponding period of 2008.
Meanwhile, the index for the value of retail trade fell by a provisional 4.3% year on year in May, having increased by 0.2% in April.
For the period January-May 2009 the retail value index is provisionally estimated to have increased by 0.8% compared with the corresponding period of 2008.
