The chief executives of Cyta and the Syrian Telecommunications Establishment (STE) have signed a package of bilateral agreements for the provision of capacity to Europe, for the planning and construction of a Syria – Cyprus submarine cable and an international telephony rate agreement between the two state-owned telcos.
The agreements were signed by Cyta chairman Stavros Kremmos and his Syrian counterpart, Eng. Nazem Bahsas, in the presence of Telecommunications and Technology Minister Imad Sabouni and the Cyprus Ambassador to Syria, Efstathios Orphanides. The Cyta chairman was accompanied by CEO Photios Savvides and other Cyta managers.
The set of agreements aim to strengthen the traditional relations between Cyta and STE and reaffirm the strategic role of Cyta and Cyprus as a major cable hub in the Eastern Mediterranean and as a telecom services nation in the wider region.
