Egypt, Cyprus Institute to develop E-CAT programme

The government of Egypt has turned to the Cyprus Institute for its know-how and experience on how to develop a similar educational institution in Egypt. Dr. Mahmoud El-Said, Managing Director of the Egyptian City for Advanced Technology (E-CAT) recently visited Cyprus and met with officials of the Cyprus Institute, to be updated and informed in relation to the progress and developments of the Cypriot institute.
Dr. El-Said met with the president of the Cyprus Institute, Prof. C.N. Papanicolas, and other officials including Education and Culture Minister Andreas Demetriou, the former President of Cyprus, George Vassiliou, Planning Bureau Permanent Secretary Andreas Moleskis, Ministry of Defense Permanent Secretary Petros Kareklas and the mayors of Paphos and Yeroskipou, Savvas Vergas and Tasos Kouzoupos.
Dr. El-Said said that he was impressed by the achievements of the Cyprus Institute as a model he wished to replicate, utilising the E-CAT concept to become a center of excellence and for the two countries to work together. He said the purpose of the visit was to see how E-CAT can be replicated using the Cypriot model in Egypt.
E-CAT is an initiative founded Professor Ahmed Hassan Zewail, an Egyptian scientist at the California Institute of Technology and the 1999 Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry.
