Central Bank of Cyprus Governor Athanasios Orphanides departed from Cyprus on Thursday to participate in the Annual Assemblies of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB), which will be held in Washington, USA, from October 11 to 13.

Orphanides is heading a delegation, comprising officers from the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank.

According to an official press release, the assemblies, which attract a large number of officers from IMF, WB and their member states, provide the opportunity for useful meetings.

Furthermore, seminars will be held on the sidelines of the assemblies with an aim to encourage creative dialogue between the private sector, the national delegations and senior officials of IMF and WB.

This year, the Cypriot Governor has been invited to speak at a seminar on the macroeconomic consequences of high fuel prices and ways to overcome them.

Orphanides has also been invited by the ''G30'', a consultative group on international economic and monetary issues, to participate in the annual World Banking Seminar, which will discuss international economy developments.
