Cyprus Trade deficit increased by 22.8% in first half of 2008

The trade deficit in Cyprus for the first half of 2008 reached 2.99 billion euro in January – June 2008, recording an increase of 557,1 million euros or 22.8% compared to 2.4 bln euro in the fist half of 2007.

According to the monthly report “Intra-Extra E.U Trade Statistics (Summarised Data)” issued by the Statistical Service for June 2008, total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other Member States) in January-June 2008 amounted to 3.571,8 million euro as compared to 3.009,3 mln in January-June 2007.

Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other Member States) in January-June 2008 were 579.6 mln euro, compared to 574.2 mln in January-June 2007.

The trade deficit was 2.992,2 mln euro in January-June 2008 compared to 2.435,1 mln in January-June 2007.

During June 2008 total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other Member States) valued at 623,8 mln euro.

Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other Member States), including stores and provisions, in June 2008 amounted to 109.7 mln euro. Exports/dispatches of domestically produced goods, including stores and provisions, were 47.5 mln euro whilst exports/dispatches of foreign goods, including stores and provisions, were 62.2 mln euro.
