Cyprus’ Ambassador to Surinam presents credentials

Cyprus' new Ambassador in The Hague Demetris Droushiotis presented his credentials to President of Surinam Runaldo Ronald Venetiaan on September 4, as the new Ambassador to the country, based in The Hague.

Droushiotis informed Surinam's President on the situation in Cyprus, with special emphasis on the initiatives of President Demetris Christofias, which led to the commencement of direct talks with the Turkish Cypriot side for a solution of the problem.

Venetiaan expressed satisfaction over the course of relations between Cyprus and Surinam, as well as his support to efforts to solve the Cyprus problem, praising the actions of President Christofias.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.
