Cyprus industrial production strong in January

Industrial production in Cyprus started the year on a strong note, rising by 4.8% in January 2008 compared with January 2007. The index was 108.1 in January 2008 and 103.1 in January 2007.

The small sector of mining and quarrying recorded a strong increase of 17.3% over the year-earlier period.

Electricity, gas and water production rose by 5.5% while manufacturing rose by 4.3%.

In 2007 total industrial output rose by 3.2% while manufacturing increased by 3.1%
