THOC presents Theatre Awards for 2005 – 2007

The 2005 – 2007 Cyprus Theatre Organization (THOC) Awards ceremony took place tonight in the presence of President of the Republic of Cyprus Tassos Papadopoulos.

The Grand THOC Prize was given to literary writer and researcher Giannis Katsouris, who has recently been honored by the Athens Academy. The award was given by President Papadopoulos, who assured of his government’s interest in the theatre.

The Award for Best Male Actor was given to Varnavas Kyriazis for his performance as Poprischin in Nikolai Gogol’s “Diary of a Madman”, a THOC production. Kyriazis preferred not to accept the award but rather to submit it in memory of Cypriot actor Sotiris Moustakas who passed away last year. The award was given by Minister of Education and Culture Akis Kleanthous.

Artistic director of the State Theatre of Northern Greece Nikitas Tsakiroglou gave the Award for Best Female Actress jointly to Annita Santorineou for her performance as Leonora in Yves Jamiaque’s “Monsieur Amilcar”, a THOC production, and to Lenia Sorokou for her performance as Nitsa in the play “My dear washing machine”, also a THOC production.

The Award for Best Director was given to Christos Zanos by House President Demetris Christofias for directing “Monsieur Almicar” and to Minas Tigkilis for directing Harold Pinter’s “The Homecoming“, an ETHAL production.

For his work in the play “The Homecoming”, Eduard Georgiou received the Award for Stage Design from Chairman of THOC Board of Directors, Demetris Karayiannis.

Charis Kafkarides and Melita Kouta received the Award for Costume Design for the play “Zoo”, a production by “Concept Paravan Proactions». The award was given by Cypriot Director Evis Gavriilides.

The Award for Theater Writing and Theatre Adaptation was given by Rector of the University of Cyprus Stavros Zenios to Antonis Georgiou for his work in the play “My dear washing machine”.

Best Music Composition Award was given to the TAT – TNABAR team for their work in “Zoo”. The award was given by THOC director Varnavas Kyriazis.

The Award for Kinesiology was given to Elena Antoniou for her work in THOC’s production “Diary of a Madman”.

Chairwoman of the Jury Committee 2005-2007 Antri Konstantinou gave the Award for Lighting Design to Giorgos Koukoumas for his work in Gogol’s “Diary of a Madman”.
