Cyprus and Moldova sign investment and tourism promotion agreements

Cypriot Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Antonis Michaelides signed an agreement for the Mutual Promotion and Protection of Investments and a Tourist Agreement between Cyprus and Moldova, during an official visit he paid to the Republic of Moldova, from September 12 to 14, at the invitation of Minister of Economy and Trade Igor Dodon.
Michaelides, who was accompanied by a multimember delegation of Cypriot businessmen, held meetings with Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev, Minister of Economy and Trade Igor Dodon, Minister of Culture and Tourism Artur Cozma, Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Vladimir Antosii, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Valeriou Ostalep and President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moldova Gheorghe Cucu.
During the meetings, bilateral relations between the two countries and ways for their further enhancement were discussed.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister of Moldova denounced the presence of foreign troops in sovereign states, while Michaelides handed over the amount of $50,000 to Tarlev as a symbolic contribution to efforts to tackle the impacts of drought in Moldova.
Michaelides also addressed a seminar aiming at the promotion of Cyprus as a centre for international activities, organised by the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with the respective Chamber of Moldova.
The Cypriot Minister also extended an invitation to the Minister of Economy and Trade of Moldova to visit Cyprus, accompanied by businesspeople from his country.
The visit is expected to take place before the end of this year.
