Cyprus Airways to add flights for Mecca pilgrims, Christmas

Cyprus Airways announced it is launching 42 extra return flights from Larnaca to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to facilitate some 13,000 Muslim pilgrims travelling to the Islamic holy city of Mecca from Europe via Cyprus.

The extra flights will commence December 7 and continue until January 9, 2008.

The national carrier is also putting on an extra 55 flights to accommodate an  anticipated demand for some 16,000 seats from Greece during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

These will be 23 extra flights to and from Athens, 27 for Thessaloniki and five for Heraklion.
