Cypriots are now better informed about the euro, their new currency as of January 1 next year, and are more friendly disposed towards the European currency, saying it will be beneficial to them and to the local economy.
A recent survey, conducted on behalf of the Central Bank of Cyprus, concluded that 59 percent of Cypriots say they are very well or well informed about the euro, compared to 43 percent a year ago.
In addition, the survey showed that for the first time 51 percent of Cypriots believe that the euro will have a positive fallout on themselves and 53 percent think the local economy will benefit from the introduction of the euro.
The corresponding results of a similar survey last year showed that 21 percent thought the euro would be good for them and 27 percent good for the economy.
The Central Bank said in a statement that the obligatory double pricing as of September 2007, in Cyprus pounds and in euro, is welcomed by the people.
