Cyprus and Egypt sign International Road Transport agreement

Cyprus and Egypt signed an Agreement on International Road Transport of Passengers and Goods, which aims to further cement relations between the two countries and open the doors for foreign trade for both countries.
The agreement was signed by Cypriot Minister of Communications and Works
Harris Thrassou and Egyptian Minister of Transport Mohamed Loutfy Mansour.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Thrassou said the signing of this agreement “on road transport will strengthen furthermore these relations and promote the cooperation between the two countries. I am convinced that this is only part of a new era of fruitful cooperation between Egypt and Cyprus”.
He also said that “Cyprus and Egypt had always been excellent neighbours since ancient times ever since our region was the center of the civilization” and during their discussions, they evaluated issues on Merchant Shipping, Road Transport and Ports and established a framework for developing our cooperation.
“Cyprus being a member of the European Union constitutes the platform for nearby friendly nations such as Egypt to access the EU market in a more efficient and profitable manner”, he concluded.
On his part, Mansour said “our purpose here is to further cement the relationship that we have between our two neighbouring and brotherly countries”.
“We signed today a transport agreement that would further open the doors for foreign trade between both countries and relieve whatever obstacles there are in transport in both directions”, the Egyptian minister added.
He also said that after his visit to Limassol Port on Thursday, his delegation is interested in cooperation in the field of “safety between Egypt and Cyprus and also for giving us safety training in the ports in Egypt”.
Mansour also said “we encourage Cypriot investors, merchant shippers to come and look at the lines we have connecting the Red Sea to Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. This could be a rewarding route; we encourage investors to come in”.
The Egyptian Minister further expressed his interest in the establishment of “cruise line shipping in the Red Sea, connecting the Red Sea ports and the Gulf”.
