On the basis of the results of the Passengers Survey, 79,551 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad in April 2007 compared with 81,206 in the corresponding month last year.

This translated into a year-on-year a decrease of 2.0%, after a rise of 25.6% in March and 23% in February. Easter is not obviously to blame since Greek Orthodox Easter was celebrated on April 8th in 2007 and in April 23rd in 2006.

In April 2007 there was a decrease of 26.9% in trips of residents to Greece (27,061 in April 2007 compared to 37,023 in April 2006) as well as 11.8% decrease to Russia (3,302 compared to 3,743 last year).

While the local tourist industry is suffering from a lack of British tourists, there was an increase of 49.5% to 17,056 in the number of residents returning from the United Kingdom in April.
