Cyprus trade deficit swells 17% to CYP 2.2 bln

The trade deficit in Cyprus swelled by 17.3% to CYP 2,124.8 mln in January-October 2006 compared to CYP 1,811.8 mln in January-October 2005.

The figures came with the announcement by the Statistical Service of Cyprus that it had published the monthly report “Intra-Extra E.U Trade Statistics (Summarised Data)” for October 2006.

The main developments in Cyprus foreign trade were as follows.

Total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other Member States) in January-October 2006 amounted to CYP 2,654.6 mln as compared to CYP 2,385.5 mln in January-October 2005.

Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other Member States) in January-October 2006 were CYP 529.8 mln compared to CYP 573.7 mln in January-October 2005.

The trade deficit was CYP 2,124.8 mln in January-October 2006 compared to CYP 1,811.8 mln in January-October 2005.

During October 2006 total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other Member States) valued at CYP 271.9 mln.

Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other Member States), including stores and provisions, in October 2006 amounted to CYP 45.1 mln.

Εxports/dispatches of domestically produced goods, including stores and provisions, were CYP 18.7 mln and exports/dispatches of foreign goods, including stores and provisions, CYP 26.4 mln.
