Cyprus to offer scholarships to citizens of Uruguay

Cyprus‘ new Ambassador to the Oriental Republic Uruguay Rea Yiordamlis, based in Madrid, has announced the decision of the Cyprus government to offer scholarships to citizens of Uruguay in the field of tourism.

According to an official press release, in a private meeting she had with the President of Urugay Tabare Vazquez after presenting her credentials, Yiordamlis elaborated on possible cooperation between the two countries in tourism, shipping and renewable energy sources.

Yiordamlis referred to Uruguay’s participation in the Human Rights Council, to its performance in the field of human rights, and to efforts by the President of Uruguay to ascertain the fate of the missing persons of Uruguay.

He noted at the same time the issue of missing persons in Cyprus and elaborated on the efforts of the government on the issue.

She also expressed hope that deliberations between the European Commission and MERCOSUR, in which Uruguay participates, to reach a positive outcome that will give the opportunity for a close and constructive cooperation of the EU with the country.
