Cyprus & Russia to cooperate in energy sector

There is room for promoting cooperation between Cyprus and Russia in the field of energy, Cyprus Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Antonis Michaelides and Russian Ambassador to Cyprus Andrey Nesterenko have stressed here Monday.
An official press release said that during a meeting on Monday, Michaelides and Nesterenko agreed that the two countries must develop relations in this field through the channeling of natural gas to Cyprus from Russia and involving Russian companies in setting up an Energy Centre on the island.
The Russian Ambassador said his country sees an important prospect in further developing tourism to Cyprus and referred to the promotion of religious tourism, underlining that Russia and Cyprus have a good cooperation in the academic field and that the University of Cyprus has relations with Russian universities and promotes the exchange of students.
Michaelides and Nesterenko underlined the close and friendly relations between Cyprus and Russia and their commitment to maintain them.Michaelides noted that trade between Cyprus and Russia is unbalanced since Cyprus’ imports from Russia are much higher than Cypriot exports to the country.
The Cypriot Minister extended an invitation to the Russian Minister for Tourism to visit Cyprus.
