Sarris in Singapore for World Bank and IMF meetings

Cypriot Minister of Finance Michalis Sarris departed for Singapore on Thursday to participate in the annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), to be held from September 16 to 20.

According to an official press release, Sarris will be participating in his capacity of Governor of the World Bank for Cyprus.

The World Bank and IMF meetings will review the course of the world economy and the problems currently faced by member countries, such as the proposals to relieve the debts of heavily indebted poor countries, the struggle against poverty and other issues.

Also on the agenda are issues concerning the two organisations and especially upgrading poor country representation, as well as measures regarding their new role to support national development strategies and the provision of financing for the growth of poorer states.
