Cyprus unemployment reaches 5.1% in May

The rate of unemployment reached 5.1% in May compared to 4.8% the previous month. During the same period the average unemployment rate in the European Union was 8.8%.

According to EUROSTAT, the unemployment for males in Cyprus reached 4.2% in May compared to 3.9% in April. This is the third best performance in the EU after Luxembourg and Austria. The female unemployment rate in Cyprus rose to 6.3% compared to 5.9% in April.

The unemployment rate for under -25s in Cyprus was 11.4%. Cyprus has the fourth best performance after Denmark, Austria and Ireland.

The highest youth unemployment was recorded in Poland with 36% and Slovakia with 26.7%, while the average EU rate was 17.8%.
