Cyprus exports slow, imports fall in April

Cyprus exports of goods slowed to an increase of 15.1% year on year in April, compared with a rise of 38.7% in the first three months of 2005. Imports fell by 28.8% compared with April 2004, possibly related to the fall in passenger registrations in the same month. Imports of cars leapt in 2004 as a result of cuts in excuse duties.

On the basis of preliminary estimates for foreign trade in April 2005, total imports/ arrivals were CYP 225.4 mln, of which CYP 147.5 mln were arrivals from other EU member states of EU and CYP 77.9 mln imports from third countries.

Total exports/dispatches were CYP 51.5 mln of which CYP 32.5 mln were dispatches to other member states of EU and CYP 19.0 mln exports to third countries.

Total imports/arrivals for the period January-April 2005 decreased by 1.4% to CYP 882.7 mln, compared to CYP 894.8 mln in January-April 2004.

Total exports/dispatches for the period January-April 2005 increased by 28.7% and valued at CYP 202.9 mln, in comparison with CYP 157.7 mln in the corresponding period of 2004.
