Cyprus consumer price inflation falls in May

Consumer prices in Cyprus fell by 0.02% compared with the previous month in May, as the index recorded 120.65 compared with 120.67 in April 2005.

The Statistical Service CYSTAT reported that this was mainly owing to decreases in the prices of certain fresh vegetables and potatoes. Increases have been recorded in the prices of certain fresh fruit and electricity.

Inflation also subsided on a year-on-year basis, as prices rose by 2.5% in May 2005 compared with May 2004, compared with a rise of 3.1% in April.

For the period January-May 2005 the CPI recorded an increase of 2.84% compared to the corresponding period of 2004.

Meanwhile, the industrial output price index for April 2005 reached 115.2 units (Base 2000=100). For April 2005 the Index recorded an increase 0.1% compared to March 2005. For the period January-April 2005, the index increased by 6.7% as compared to January-April 2004.
