Cypriots travel abroad in droves

A record number of 860.000 locals traveled abroad last year, of whom about 65.5% or 563.000 were for holidays, about 21% business travel, 11% for studies and 2.5% for other purposes, according to the Vice-Chairman of the Cyprus Tourist Agents Association, Akis Kelepeshis.

Speaking during a press conference on Travel 2005 exhibition, Kelepeshis who is also the Chairman of Top Kinisis Travel said the most popular destination for Cypriots remains Greece, followed by central and eastern Europe as well as the neighbouring countries of Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and Israel while interest for exotic and far away destinations is also on the increase.

Referring to the Travel 2005 exhibition, Kelepeshis said some 42 exhibitors will display the most attractive offers on travel.
