Motor registrations up 33.2% in August

Motor vehicle registrations rose by 33.2% to 5,064, bringing the total for the year to 45,349, also a rise of 33.2% on January-August 2006.

In January-August registrations of private saloon cars rose 33,504 from 24,570 in January-August 2006, marking an increase of 36.4%.

Registrations of new cars were up by 23.8% to 24,357 and registrations of used cars were up by 46.1% to 20,732.

Car sales have been boosted this year by a big cut in excise duties in November 2006.
